These opportunities represent a list of Career and Technical Education Programs that lead to a career in a high demand industry in Yavapai County. These careers have the potential to provide students with median-to-high-wage jobs in our region. They have been selected based on labor market data provided by the Office of Economic Opportunity and in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Education.

Mountain Institute is offering these programs to students who graduated in May 2026 for the 2026-2027 Academic school year (the year AFTER graduation). Each eligible program is listed below with a brief description and progression plan outlining all of the courses required for that program.

- Meet with a YC Advisor – contact them by phone or email to set up an appointment. Let them know you want to register for classes as part of one of the MICTED High Demand Programs.
- YC Enrollment Opens April 13th, 2026 @ 7:00AM!
Set up Payment!
- Fill out a digital High Demand form in your YC portal. The form can be found by logging into your account and selecting the green “students” notebook. Find the “High Demand (CTED) Form” towards the bottom of the drop-down box that appears.
- This is how Mountain Institute will pay for your classes. If you don’t complete this step you will be billed for your classes.

3-D Printing

The 3D Printing program is designed for students interested in entering into the 3D printing and manufacturing industry. Through a multifaceted hands-on experience, students will learn the principles, standards, materials and application of 3D printing and manufacturing. Students will explore the different materials used in different printing technologies, as well as learn to identify, troubleshoot and correct errors in the manufacturing process. Students will also learn to perform post-processing procedures of manufactured parts and materials and be able to maintain 3D printers.

Air Traffic Control

The Air Traffic Control program introduces students to how aircraft are safely guided through the nation’s airspace. Students learn how the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system and the National Airspace System (NAS) work together to manage air traffic on the ground and in the air. Through hands-on and scenario-based learning, students practice radar separation, airspace protection, speed control, and vectoring techniques used to keep aircraft safely spaced and moving efficiently.

The program also covers control tower operations, navigation, and how weather impacts aircraft performance and safety. Students learn to read and interpret aviation charts, including Instrument Approach Procedures (IAPs), Departure Procedures (DPs), and Standard Arrival Routes (STARs). By the end of the program, students will be prepared to take the entrance exam into the FAA Air Traffic Control Academy in Oklahoma City.

Automated Industrial Technology

The Certificate in Automated Industrial Technology prepares students to troubleshoot, maintain and repair a variety of automated electromechanical, product assembly, and product distribution systems that use programmable controls and other methodologies to accomplish system management. These systems include robotic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic devices. Provides the skills to define, install, adjust, and maintain automated systems.

Auto Body Paint & Collision Technology

Automotive Technician

The purpose of this certificate program is to prepare students with the technical skills to obtain direct employment in the automotive industry and to upgrade the skills of individuals already employed in the industry. The courses within this certificate program prepare students for the National Automotive Service Excellence certification examinations which are required for most entry-level employment opportunities in the industry. Upon completion of each course, the student will receive an Award of Completion which will identify the competencies achieved.

Certified Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant Certificate program prepares students to work as nursing assistants and prepares them to take the state competency exams leading to certification or licensure.

Prerequisites: MAT 082 or Satisfactory score on the Mathematics Skills Assessment and Reading Proficiency or proof of successful completion of 12 college credits.

Pre-Entry Requirements: There are special admission requirements for the Nursing Assistant Program that must be completed before receiving the Program Director's approval to register for the courses. These include a completed program application with proof of criminal background, health, and drug screenings. Must be at least 16 years old.

Culinary Arts

The Certificate in Culinary Arts Fundamentals is designed to equip students with basic skills in culinary arts. The program provides instruction in culinary concepts and terminology, kitchen safety and sanitation, equipment usage, basic nutritional guidelines, standard and metric measurements, food costing, and theory and practice in the production of culinary products. Courses emphasize fundamental cooking techniques and preparation methods for hot foods, breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, dressings, breads and pastries.

Cybersecurity Specialist

The Cybersecurity Specialist certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in cybersecurity and network administration. Students learn to install, support, secure, and troubleshoot network devices such as routers, switches, and servers. In addition, students learn how to configure virtual private networks, firewalls, and intrusion prevention systems. This program helps prepare students for the CompTIA Security+ and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Security certifications and provides a strong knowledge base to pursue advanced cybersecurity certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).

In this program the student will earn progress toward Yavapai College's Associate of Arts in Elementary Education Degree. Please reference Yavapai College's website for more information on degree requirements here. This degree is designed for students interested in elementary or early childhood education who are preparing to transfer to one of the public universities to complete a baccalaureate program and qualify for an Arizona teaching certificate.

Electrical Line Worker

The certificate in Electric Utility Lineworker is designed to prepare the student for a position as a pre-apprentice level lineworker who is familiar with the use of tools, materials, and equipment of the electric utility industry. Students will be trained in power line installation and maintenance, pole climbing and use of tools, truck and equipment operation, and overhead and underground distribution, construction and maintenance of electrical lines.

Emergency Medical Technician

Basic certificate provides fundamental knowledge and emergency medical procedures and techniques. Yavapai College offers students entry-level emergency response training with its EMT-Basic program. It prepares the student to become an EMT through relevant coursework and extensive hands-on practical training, clinical work, and instructors who have years of experience and know what is needed to succeed. Successful completion of this program will prepare the students for the required Arizona and National Registry EMT exams. Our EMT students have excellent pass rates on the National Registry Exam.

Organizational Management

The Management Certificate provides management training to prepare students to apply competencies needed for successful performance in management occupations. The program is designed for those seeking to update or develop essential management skills for the workplace and is available in two concentrations: Organizational Management and Retail Management (national endorsement by the WAFC).

Plumbing Technician

The Plumbing Technician Certificate is designed to provide the essential skills required of an entry-level employee in the residential plumbing industry. Training in various aspects of the construction and plumbing industry include: hand and power tool operation, blueprints, materials, and layouts. Students will learn to install and repair residential plumbing systems which include new construction, renovations, wells, and septic systems. Program will also address plumbing system design, calculations, safety, testing, and applicable codes and standards.

Residential Electrician Technician Certificate

The Residential Electrical Technician program prepares students with the skills needed to safely install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residential homes. Students learn industry safety standards, proper electrical practices, and how to install complete wiring systems for a house, including outlets, lighting, circuits, and service components.

Through hands-on training, students develop the ability to diagnose and repair common electrical problems and interpret residential drawings and blueprints used in construction. The program also emphasizes applying the National Electrical Code (NEC) to ensure electrical installations meet current safety and regulatory standards. By the end of the program, students gain practical experience and foundational skills for careers in residential electrical work and the construction trades.

Retail Management

The Management Certificate provides management training to prepare students to apply competencies needed for successful performance in management occupations. The program is designed for those seeking to update or develop essential management skills for the workplace and is available in two concentrations: Organizational Management and Retail Management (national endorsement by the WAFC).

Robotics

This Robotics and Automation program introduces students to the fundamental concepts behind how robots move, sense, and interact with the world around them. Through hands-on learning, students operate and program industrial robots while building a strong understanding of robot motion, sensing systems, input/output (I/O) devices, tooling, and basic maintenance. Emphasis is placed on real-world applications used in modern manufacturing and automation environments.

Students also gain experience setting up, teaching, testing, and modifying robotic programs, including vision-based applications using GE FANUC iRVision on the R-30iA Robot Controller. The program prepares students for industry-recognized certifications, including FANUC Handling Tool Operator/Programmer and Universal Robots Operator credentials. By the end of the program, students are equipped with practical skills for careers as robot operators, technicians, programmers, or engineers in advanced manufacturing and automation fields.

Welding - Gas Metal Arc

As a welder, your exact career duties can vary depending on the industry in which you're employed. Most employers require you to be familiar with arc welding. This technique bonds metals together with heat by using electrical currents. In some cases, you might oversee machines capable of automated welding. In these scenarios, you'll program the machines and ensure that they're performing the welding tasks correctly.
