EDUCATION PROFESSIONS

PROGRAM SUMMARY

The Education Professions program introduces students to the foundations of teaching and learning in today’s classrooms. Students explore the history, philosophy, and policies that shape education while developing their own personal philosophy of teaching and its connection to future careers in education.

The program focuses on creating developmentally appropriate learning activities that support student outcomes and examining how teaching styles and learning styles interact in the classroom. Students also explore multicultural education, equity, and the evolving role of schools in supporting diverse learners, including exceptional children and youth. Through these experiences, students analyze the influence of family, community, and culture on child development and learn how to use technology to support effective and efficient teaching practices.

CAREER SNAPSHOT
Students can continue at Yavapai College and complete an Associates of Arts in Elementary Education. They can then transfer to a state university to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and earn an AZ State Teaching Certificate. Students have a potential opportunity to enter into a program for Teacher Certification that would allow for loan forgiveness with a commitment to 5 years of teaching in Arizona.
